Year 1 Maths 2.3.21

Today in maths we are continuing our new sequence of work on measurement. This week, we are focusing on measuring length and height.

Before we begin, let's practise counting in 2s again, like we did yesterday, to get warmed up and ready to start. Click here and get ready to join in.

Now have a look at this video.

You could click here for the power point slides if you would prefer to go at your own pace.

Remember to share your ideas and answers with a grown up.

Today's activities can be found within the video / power point. Please stop and have a go at the different tasks as and when instructed.

  • Can you find 3 things that are shorter than you?

  • Can you find 3 things that are taller than you?

  • Can you find 3 things the same height as you?

REMEMBER TO CHECK THAT THE BOTTOM OF THE PEOPLE / OBJECTS ARE LEVEL WHEN YOU ARE COMPARING HEIGHT, just like they demonstrate in the video / power point.

If you are enjoying measuring and would like some more measuring challenges:

  • Pick your favourite toy and search for 3 things that are taller than / shorter than the toy.

  • Can you find 3 things that are taller than / shorter than a chair in your house?

  • What is the tallest thing you can find in your house?

  • What is the shortest thing you can find in your house?

Grown ups:

Try and encourage your child to talk in full sentences about what they find when they are comparing / measuring.

For example:

The teddy is shorter than the table. The teddy is taller than the unicorn.

Happy measuring!
